Well, hello. I had this excellent idea of starting feature posts on Sunday. I’m a little late. All apart of getting into the groove, I guess. Anyway, as a outlook of things to come, I’ll be shining the spotlight on some of the illest established and up-and-coming brands/designers. So let’s kick things off right.
Lifestyle brand LOLA New York has been one of my favorites for a while. People who know me can vouch, as I rock my everlasting black LOLA snap-back so much, its become a nickname of sorts. You can even find the likes of Lindsay Lohan wearing hers, which may either help or hurt their sales. Run by the genius minds of James Cruickshank, Emmitt Shine, and the whole LOLA crew, the boys make sure to represent Southampton to the fullest. Its name honors the now-abandoned Lola Prentice Memorial Park, where the creators of the brand first met. Today, the team works together to come up with clever, hand-screened tees, hats, hoodies, sweaters, crewnecks, polos, and decks, with themes of nautical life, art, music, sports, and family. Some of the more popular graphics include the multicolored “Anchors” and “Eazy-E” prints. They even crank out mixtapes by Max Barbaria from LOLA and DJ Vibe from time to time. From a buyer’s standpoint, the shirts are pretty durable, and the organic cotton they seldom use are nice on the skin and environment. They don’t come cheap, though; dealing with limited runs, price tags of $30-60 per shirt are common. I’d say they’re worth it. Pure, classic, rich boy Americana. Not really what I promote, but nice nonetheless.
Check out their blog if you get a chance. Amazing galleries, too.
Stay up.
